South Carolina Landfill to Run Fleet on CNG

EASLEY, SC – The operators of Greenpointe Landfill in northern Anderson County say their new gas-powered refuse trucks represent their early steps toward running a “clean and green” company that recycles construction and demolition debris, reported the Anderson Independent Mail.

The two new haulers are among the first in Anderson County to run off compressed natural gas (CNG) instead of diesel fuel. According to statistics from the Fort Hill Natural Gas Authority, the clean-burning trucks reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 23 percent.

The landfill company has 19 trucks altogether and plans to trade all the diesels for greener trucks over time, according to Radford Jenkins, vice president of Greenpointe LLC. He has already ordered two more trucks that run on CNG and will have those delivered by the end of the year, reported the Independent Mail.

The new CNG trucks are part of the company’s effort to make “green decisions” and “move forward,” Jenkins told the Independent Mail. The company has encountered legal issues related to the Greenpointe Landfill and violation of county zoning and grading ordinances. Read the full story.
