Six automakers have agreed to integrate Apple's CarPlay iPhone integration setup with the infotainment systems of 2014 models, and 12 others said they would add it to future models.

Ferrari, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo will be the first automakers out of the gate to allow drivers to use their Apple devices in vehicles with CarPlay, which will be debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show this week.

In a separate announcement, Volvo said it would add CarPlay to the 2015 XC90 SUV that will be introduced later this year.

BMW, Ford, General Motors, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, and others have committed to offer CarPlay integration in the future.

With a special interface, CarPlay allows users to access the features of their Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod using voice and steering-wheel controls. Users will be able to access phone, messages, music, and navigation via Apple Maps.

CarPlay will come with a future iOS 7 update and will be available for iPhones with Lightning connectivity (iPhone 5, 5S, and 5C). CarPlay will also allow users access to third-party apps such as Spotify, iHeartRadio, Beats Radio, and Stitcher.
