In addition to its network of fueling stations, fuel, payment card portfolio, telematics, and maintenance plans, Shell now offers fleets a suite of EV charging solutions delivered through a single, unified Shell brand experience.

Announced on May 9 at the 2022 Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo, small- and medium-sized U.S. fleets can source turnkey customized EV charging solutions at scale, the company said in a statement.

This announcement comes following the global rebrand in 2021 of EV software and services providers Greenlots in the U.S. and NewMotion in Europe to Shell Recharge Solutions.

"We are excited to work collaboratively with Shell Recharge Solutions so we can provide fleet managers with comprehensive technology and services that make the transition to electrification easier and more affordable," said Jim Perkins, director of fleet solutions U.S. at Shell. "Our combination of solutions like Shell Telematics, Shell Fleet Cards, Shell Fleet Maintenance Hub, Shell TapUp, and Shell Recharge Solutions can be a game changer for fleets by enabling them to thrive through their electrification journeys and provide access to the very best products and services for the future.”

Additionally, Shell Recharge Solutions’ SKY EV Charging Network Software manages EV charging. By leveraging Shell Recharge Solutions’ charging capabilities, fleets can now offer depot charging supported by a collection of solutions powered by Shell.

“We are working to power the transformation to electric mobility to create a more sustainable future,” added Tannaz Banisadre, general manager of integration, EV charging solutions at Shell, and chief operating officer of Shell Recharge Solutions North America. “We’re thrilled to offer businesses a comprehensive suite of turnkey EV charging solutions delivered through a single, unified Shell brand experience.”

In an email exchange with the Bobit Fleet Group, Shell’s Banisadre answered the following questions.

Bobit: Can fleets contract with Shell for Shell-branded chargers — using Shell software to manage — or contract with other charging providers and use Shell software?

TB: Yes to all. From a customization and scalability perspective, we work with fleet owners and operators to identify the right vehicle and charging configuration that meets operational needs and business goals, managed by our SKY Network software. We take a modular approach that allows us to design solutions based on customer priorities and parameters — be it planning, design, financing, hardware, and software.

Bobit: Can this solution integrate payments with traditional Shell cards for gas and diesel fueling into one bill?

TB: With the Shell Fleet Card integrated solution, (fleets) have the ability to pay for charging, fuel, and other mobility expenses — all with one card, one supplier, and on one invoice; all this with a robust digital loyalty platform that links mobility and energy offers. This is a service that we are continuing to develop globally, as we see both the industry and fleet customers maturing in this space.

Bobit: Will fleets have the ability to combine EV charging reports to compare with gas and diesel fueling?

TB: We see a lot of potential for ICE/EV report integration for fleet customers, and there are circumstances that allow U.S. to customize reports depending on the need. This is an area we plan to develop further, over time.
