Shell Oil Products US, a commercial fleet fuel card provider, announced the launch of Shell Telematics. The new product uses the latest tracking technology to turn data into actionable insights that can help fleet owners run their business more efficiently, according to the company.

Shell Telematics integrates fuel card data with data generated by a fleet’s vehicles to provide increased visibility into driver behavior and vehicle performance. This data is processed and delivered to fleet owners for relevant insights that can be used to increase security, safety, and productivity, as well as to position the business to be competitive in the future.

Shell noted that the increased visibility into day-to-operations also supports environmental sustainability by cutting down on vehicle emissions.

Key highlights of the service include:

  • With a satellite map view, Google Street View and traffic information, users can track the location and movement of all vehicles to proactively intervene and increase vehicle availability

  • Journey history offers access to all routes made, including details such as date, time, start and finish locations, drivetime and distance travelled

  • Insight into driver performance based on the length and severity of the speeding, acceleration, idling time and braking events can be used to reduce costs and CO2 emissions, and incentivize improved driving skills

  • Shell Telematics is certified with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) for fleets subjects to ELD compliance.

“Shell Telematics was designed to help fleets operate more efficiently, while also boosting safety both on and off the road,” said Rusty Barron, Vice President and General Manager of Fleet Solutions North America at Shell. “We are thrilled to strengthen our product portfolio by allowing fleet managers to lower their total cost of ownership through increased visibility into their operations and a stronger connection with their drivers.”
