Sears Auto Center will begin installing any brand of tires purchased on Amazon.com at its maintenance stores across the nation, Sears has announced.
In May, Sears announced it would be the first installation partner for Amazon customers. The initial launch covered eight metro markets and included 47 Sears Auto Center locations. Now, Sears stores in all 50 states offer tire installation and balancing for Amazon shoppers.
The expanded Amazon partnership comes a week after Sears announced it would shutter another 46 Kmart and Sears stores in the U.S. Of those stores, 25 also have Sears Auto Center locations that will close. (As of May 5, there were 529 Sears stores in the U.S., but they don't all have auto centers.)
In July, Monro Inc. said it had signed up to install tires for Amazon, as well. It's starting in the Baltimore market, but will extend the service to all of its stores in 27 states.
"The response from Amazon customers around this program has been extremely positive," says Mike McCarthy, vice president and general manager of Sears Automotive. "Our competitive bundled price for tire installation, which includes the installation of the tire, wheel balancing, valve stem or tire pressure monitor rebuild kit and the tire disposal fee is resonating with these customers. We're thrilled to extend this valuable service across even more areas and into hundreds of additional stores.
"Providing excellent auto service, such as fast installation and free Performance Snapshot evaluations, is at the core of our business and partnerships. By working with Amazon, we're proud to further meet and surpass that commitment, thanks to the ease and convenience of their program."
Amazon customers select their tires, then can choose the nearest Sears Auto Center and their preferred date and time for the tire installation. Sears Auto Center then contacts them to confirm their appointment. Sears Auto Center is a division of Sears, Roebuck and Co.
