Sears Home Services Converts 27 Fleet Service Vans to Propane Autogas

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL – Sears Home Services recently purchased 27 new Ford E250 cargo vans for our Seattle-area fleet which were converted to propane autogas by Roush CleanTech. The use of propane autogas is expected to reduce greenhouse gases by 25 percent, nitrogen oxide by 20 percent and carbon monoxide by up to 60 percent, while offering reduced maintenance costs and the potential for extended engine life.

The conversion of the service and product repair vehicles to propane autogas is one of several initiatives underway to improve the efficiency of the fleet of 9,200 Home Services vans. If they obtain the type of efficiencies expected, consideration will be given to purchase additional cargo vans powered by ROUSH CleanTech propane autogas over the next few years, according to the company. Other environmental steps it has implemented include a no-idling policy and installing “economizer” devices on 4,800 of the service vans to ensure technicians drive at speeds that optimize fuel efficiency.

On Sept. 27, Washington state legislators and dignitaries recognized Sears Holdings’ environmental commitment during the unveiling of this pilot campaign. This relationship with ROUSH CleanTech Propane Autogas is yet another example of the company’s commitment to effective promotion of sustainable, energy efficient products and services as it looks to put this fuel to work within the Sears Homes Services fleet.

Earlier this year, Sears Holdings also earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR program’s highest honor - the ENERGY STAR "Corporate Commitment Award" – as a result of its achievements and best practices in Product Retailing and Energy Management.
