Rear Autobraking Cuts Cadillac Accident Claims
An analysis by the Highway Loss Institute reveals that the GM rear automatic braking system cuts the frequency of property damage liability claims 26%.

General Motors’ rear automatic braking system has reduced by 26% the frequency of property damage liability claims for Cadillac vehicles equipped with the safety feature, according to a new analysis by the Highway Loss Institute (HLDI).
Additionally, Cadillac vehicles equipped with rear autobraking have experienced a 13% reduction in the frequency of claims made under collision coverage, HLDI researchers found.
“Backing crashes usually don’t occur at high speeds, but damage from the everyday collisions that happen when backing out of driveways and parking spots can be costly and time-consuming to repair,” said Matt Moore, senior vice president of HLDI. “GM’s reverse autobrake system is helping to alleviate some of these headaches for Cadillac owners. And it’s another reminder that consumers don’t have to wait for self-driving cars to reap the benefits of automated technologies.”
For the analysis, HLDI studied claims for 2015 Cadillac ATS, CTS, SRX, XTS and Escalade vehicles, as well as some 2013 and 2014 models. The claims frequency for models equipped with rear auto braking was compared against the claims frequency for models lacking the safety feature.
Cadillac vehicles equipped with rear autobraking also have front autobraking, forward collision warning, a rearview camera, front and rear parking alerts, blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning or lane-keeping support. HLDI ensured that the analysis controlled for the presence or absence of these features, the institute said.
