The 2019 Ram 1500 has been named the North American Truck of the Year by a panel of automotive journalists, who also awarded car and SUV honors to the Genesis G70 and Hyundai Kona.
The awards were announced on the first day of the Detroit auto show.
"The Ram 1500 is an important product for FCA and winning this award is one of the highest honors," said Reid Bigland, head of the Ram brand. "In what is arguably the most competitive segment in the automotive industry, for the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 to be named North American Truck of the Year is tremendous recognition of the FCA employees who design, engineer and build a pickup that truly stands out."
The Ram 1500 was chosen by a group of 60 journalists among finalists that also included the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500.
The Hyundai Kona rose to the top of the SUV category, which also included the Jaguar I-Pace and Acura RDX. For the car award, Hyundai's Genesis G70 beat out the Volvo S60/V60 and the Honda Insight gasoline-electric hybrid.
