MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, CANADA - PHH Arval is hosting a risk-management and safety symposium Tuesday, Nov.30, in Montreal at the ICAR Motorsport Complex in Mirabel.
PHH Arval is a leading fleet management services provider in the United States and Canada. The company recently hosted a similar symposium for clients, prospects, supplier partners, manufacturers and PHH employees at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary. Jim Halliday, president of PHH Canada, introduced Western Canadian fleet professionals to the Center for Transportation Safety (CTS), a new division of PHH Arval. CTS provides fleets with behind-the-wheel and other driver training.
Symposium attendees test-drove heavy truck and passenger vehicle simulators aboard CTS' mobile driver training classroom. The sessions simulated driving situations that are normally too dangerous, too expensive or impossible to duplicate in the real world. CTS staff led participants through safe skid maneuvers aboard a specialized skid vehicle, emergency braking and evasive maneuvers, backing, and mirror and seat adjustments.
In particular, drivers relished the chance to practice how to regain control after a skid. "It's a good skill to know," said Penn West Energy's Mike Breward. "It's something that everybody should have the ability to practice in a controlled setting. It's not the time to do it when you're on the highway skidding across the road."
In addition to behind-the-wheel training, PHH Arval hosted a ride-and-drive; an expo featuring PHH's online driver training, telematics and technology capabilities; and exhibits from numerous automotive supplier partners.
