GILBERT, AZ --- PetroSun BioFuels said it has agreed to launch an algae-to-biofuels wastewater pilot program with the town of Gilbert, Ariz.
The parties hope to evaluate whether they can use wastewater to cultivate algae that can be processed into feedstock for the production of biodiesel and other products.
The project will take place at the Neely Wastewater Reclamation Facility. The plant is operated by Severn Trent Services.
During the program, the town of Gilbert will be offered all biodiesel produced at the actual cost of production and processing.
"The town of Gilbert has a stated interest in expanding the sources for renewable and sustainable energy for the benefit of its citizens," said Gordon LeBlanc Jr., PetroSun's CEO. "This wastewater pilot program is an important step in the commercialization of the algae industry."
PetroSun BioFuels is part of PetroSun Inc., a diversified energy company.
