Australia's Melbourne International Roll-On Roll-Off Industries (MIRRAT) is expanding a terminal for shipping vehicles and goods operated by Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL). The construction of the Webb Dock West automotive terminal will begin later this year.

The process will be broken into two different phases. In the first phase, MIRRAT will build a new 185,000-square-mile facility expected to begin operations in 2016. In phase two, the new facility will be combined with the existing automotive terminal. An 8,000-square-mile enclosed cargo area will be added to the terminal.

The terminal marks the start of an expansion to the port, which will be funded by the Port of Melbourne Corporation.

"This terminal will be unique with a focus on modern design and strong environmental performance," said Rob Lord, WWL's regional director for Oceania. "Its efficient operations will support Melbourne’s growing trade requirements over the next 30 years."

MIRRAT is a subsiderary of WWL, which has 12 terminals worldwide handling 4 million units.
