OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Oklahoma City’s fleet maintenance complex has added a new fast-fill compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station. The city has 89 CNG vehicles.
Previously, plans to expand the city’s CNG fleet were hindered by the amount of time required to refuel such a vehicle. But now, with the fast-fill retrofit, the city can refuel one of its CNG vehicles in as little as seven minutes.
“This allows the City to purchase more CNG vehicles, which increases our efficiency by reducing our fuel costs,” said Jennifer Gooden, city sustainability director. “Federal funds from an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant were invested in infrastructure to reduce the City’s costs in the future.”
The fast-fill station also paves the way for the city to purchase heavy equipment such as dump trucks and METRO Transit buses that run on CNG.
The $1.28 million fueling station was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
