The Chamber of Commerce of Brazil in Japan has named Carlos Ghosn, president and CEO of Nissan Motor Co., its Person of the Year 2014. 

The annual award goes to an individual who makes a notable contribution to strengthening the economic relationship between Brazil and Japan.

CCBJ members say they chose Ghosn because of his positive impact in expanding the ecnomic ties between Brazil and Japan and his achievements as a global buisness leader.

Ghosn is also the Chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance. He is known for his cost-cutting methods that have resulted in big profits.

The results were announced at an award gala in central Tokyo. 

“I am honored to receive this award from the Brazil Chamber in Japan,” said Ghosn. “It is a reaffirmation of my view that differences between people and cultures can be a source of strength, of potential wealth and opportunity, just as these elements have become driving factors in the growth of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.”

Nissan opened a production plant in Resende, Rio de Janmeiro that the company says will eventually employ 2,000 men and women and have an annual production output of 200,000 vehciles and 200,000 engines.

It is clear Nissan is working on its global expansion and hopes to become the number one Japanese brand in the Brazilian merket by the end of 2016.
