WASHINGTON – Nissan North America Inc. is recalling 79,275 2011-2012 model-year Juke, Infiniti QX and Infiniti M vehicles because of the potential for fuel leaks. In a separate action, Nissan is also recalling 2,983 2012 model-year Murano and Rogue vehicles because they may be equipped with inactive tire pressure monitoring systems.
Moreover, Nissan is recalling 976 2012 model-year Altima and Versa vehicles because they may be equipped with side curtain air bags that contain the wrong propellant mixture for the initiator component used.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that the fuel pressure sensors in the Juke, Infiniti QX and Infiniti M vehicles may not have been tightened to the correct specification. The fuel pressure sensor may loosen as a result of heat and vibration. This is turn could cause fuel to leak, posing a fire risk.
Nissan will notify vehicle owners of the recall, and dealers will replace the fuel pressure sensors as needed. There will be no charge for this service. This recall is expected to get under way around March 19.
The recall involving Murano and Rogue vehicles covers those models that were manufactured from Nov. 23, 2011 through Jan. 11, 2012. During assembly, the tire pressure monitoring systems were not properly activated, so these vehicles fail to comply with all federal safety standards. Since all of the affected vehicles are still in dealer inventory, dealers have been instructed to activate the systems.
The recall involving 976 2012 Altimas and Versas was prompted by the fact that incorrect propellant mixture for the initiator component may result in insufficient output of compressed gas. This could cause side curtain air bag failure. To remedy the problem, dealers will replace one or both side curtain air bag modules as needed. There will be no charge for this service.
Nissan can be reached at (615) 725-1000.
