Nissan North America is recalling more than 98,300 2006-2010 model-year Infiniti M35 and M45 vehicles so that dealers can replace the accelerator pedal assembly and reprogram the engine control module, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

The vehicles covered by the recall were all manufactured April 4, 2004 through Oct. 5, 2010. In these vehicles, the accelerator pedal sensor signal may gradually deteriorate, resulting in the output of an incorrect signal causing the engine to go into fail-safe, or limp-home, mode. In this mode, throttle valve deposits might lead the engine to stall when the vehicle is coming to a stop or at idle.

Dealers will correct the problem free of charge. The recall is expected to get under way in early November.
