Nissan Recalling 2013-MY Altima, LEAF, Pathfinder, Sentra and Infiniti JX35
Sensors within the passenger occupant detection system (ODS) may have been manufactured out of specification.
Because of a potential airbag issue, Nissan is recalling certain 2013 model-year Altima, LEAF, Pathfinder, Sentra and Infiniti JX35 vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
Sensors within the passenger occupant detection system (ODS) may have been manufactured out of specification. As a result, the system may malfunction and the passenger airbag may fail to deploy as designed, in the event of a collision.
To remedy the problem, Nissan dealers will inspect the ODS sensors and replace them as needed. There will be no charge for this service. This recall is expected to get under way in early April.
In a separate action, Nissan is also recalling 2013-MY Sentra vehicles manufactured from Sept. 11, 2012, through Oct. 4, 2012. Some fuel tank assemblies weren’t sealed properly during the manufacturing process. As a result, a small amount of gasoline may leak from the fuel tank when it’s full, posing a fire risk. Dealers will replace the fuel tanks as necessary, free of charge.
This recall is expected to begin March 18.
The total number of vehicles affected by these two recalls is undetermined at this time, NHTSA reported on its website.
