Nissan: 500,000 Electric Cars by 2012
TOKYO - Nissan is planning for a production capacity of 500,000 Leaf electric cars in North America, Japan and Europe by 2012, the Chicago Tribune reported.
TOKYO - Nissan is planning for a production capacity of 500,000 Leaf electric cars in North America, Japan and Europe by 2012, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The automaker will begin delivering the Leaf by the end of this year.
Carlos Ghosn, who heads Nissan-Renault, predicted that all-electric vehicles will account for 10 percent of the car market by 2020, the Tribune reported.
About 56,000 Leafs have been ordered by dealers in the United States.
Ghosn also said he expected the Leaf to attract fleet orders from taxi companies, post offices and municipalities.
