In New York, the chairman of the Assembly's environmental conservation committee, Thomas DiNapoli, D-Long Island, plans to introduce legislation that would adopt California's standards on limiting greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles, according to the Detroit News. California Gov. Gray Davis signed a landmark bill July 22 that would regulate carbon dioxide emissions starting with 2009 models. "Global warming and greenhouse gases pose serious health and economic risks," DiNapoli said. "By acting now, we are acting responsibly to limit the pollutants that directly contribute to global warming and the degradation of air quality."
