New York Approved More than 5,750 in Electric Car Rebates
The State's Drive Clean Rebate initiative provides residents with a rebate of up to $2,000 for the purchase or lease of a new electric car from participating dealers.

More than 5,750 consumers in New York received rebates to buy or lease electric cars since the state launched a program that has approved $7.5 million in rebates for New Yorkers who purchased electric cars.
The State's Drive Clean Rebate initiative provides residents with a rebate of up to $2,000 for the purchase or lease of a new electric car from participating dealers, according to a release from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority. Most consumers received rebates of at least $1,100 for their electric cars in 2017
Drive Clean Rebate is a $70 million electric car program that is aimed at encouraging the growth of non-polluting electric car us in New York.
As a result of this initiative, more than 10,000 electric cars were sold in 2017, a 67% increase over 2016, according to the release. The program aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 40% by 2030.
The rebates were approved in all 62 counties across New York State, according to a release. Approximately 32% of the approved rebates were submitted by Long Island consumers, followed by drivers in the Mid-Hudson Valley with 17.4%. New York City accounted for 8.2% of the rebates.
The leading car models sold or leased in the initiative included the Toyota Prius Prime, Chevrolet Bolt EV, Chevrolet Volt, Ford Fusion Energi, and Kia Soul EV. The Toyota Prius Prime accounted for more than 38% of rebates, followed by the Chevrolet Bolt EV with 12%.
