Nevada has enacted several new traffic laws for 2020 including stiffer penalties for speeding and an expanded move-over law, reports the Lincoln County Record.
The new fine for speeding has been boosted to $20 for each mile per hour above the speed limit or proper rate of speed. In addition, in The Silver State it is now illegal to drive at a speed that results in the injury of another person or damage to any property, according to a the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Nevada’s move-over law previously meant drivers approaching any traffic incident were required to slow down to less than the posted speed limit, move to a non-adjacent lane, and be prepared to stop. In 2020, that law has been expanded to include when motorists are approaching non-emergency vehicles with flashing lights.
In addition, the reckless driving law in Nevada now allows prosecution of reckless driving and vehicular manslaughter offenses in places where the public has access such as parking lots, parking garages and roads in gated communities. Previously, this law applied only if the vehicle was on a public street, according to reports.
