Navistar Signs Joint Venture to Produce Electric Trucks

The new Navistar-Modec EV Alliance LLC will produce Class 2c-3 all-electric commercial trucks for sale in North, Central and South America.

Commercial vehicles manufacturer Navistar International Corp said on Dec. 2 that it has agreed to form a joint venture with UK-based Modec Ltd, a manufacturer of zero emission vehicles, to produce and market all-electric trucks.

The new Navistar-Modec EV Alliance LLC will produce Class 2c-3 all-electric commercial trucks for sale in North, Central and South America.

The trucks are designed and built to be electrically driven and are intended for urban use. They produce zero tailpipe emissions, Navistar said.

Navistar was awarded a federal grant of USD39.2m from the US Department of Energy in August to develop and build all-electric trucks, which will be produced in Elkhart County, Indiana.
