The National Auto Auction Association (NAAA) announced on July 16 the launch of its Scholastic Foundation, which will present scholarships to deserving students whose families are associated with the NAAA and its members.
A separate charitable corporation (501c3) has been established to operate the foundation. The officers are Tony Long, President; Steve McConnaughey, Secretary/Treasurer; trustees are the NAAA Presidents over the last 5 years — Jimmy Compton, Ray Nicols, Kenny Osborn, Henry Stanley, and Don DeVries.
Eligible recipients of scholarships are full-time employees of corporate offices and member auctions; and their children and grandchildren. A Silent Auction to be held at the NAAA National Convention at Opryland in Nashville on September 29 – October 3 will initially fund the Foundation. 100 percent of the proceeds from the silent auction will go to the foundation.
NAAA is asking for members auctions, associate members corporations, friends and individuals for contributions. NAAA has received gifts of value from $50 to $7,500. In addition each zone and the independent committee has contributed from $3,000 to $25,001. ServNet members (22 independent auctions) marked a week in June and gave $1.00 for every car sold.
To donate to the silent auction, contact Barbara or Jim Wheatley, co-chairpersons of the NAAA Scholarship Foundation Auction using the information provided below. Donated items should be sent to Harrisonburg Auto Auction by August 1, 2004, where they will be inventoried and categorized. A silent and live auction catalog will be compiled and printed. Paperwork and display boards for each item will be completed prior to the convention. Items will be transported to the convention hall in Nashville by Sept. 28, 2004.
