PRINCETON, NJ – On April 15, NAFA Fleet Management Association welcomed writer Donald W. Dunphy on-board as Communications Assistant. Dunphy brings a unique set of skills to his new position at NAFA, including many years as a writer, graphic artist, and independent musician.
While this is Dunphy’s first time working for a membership association and within a communications department, he is not a stranger to the field of mass communications. He is a frequent freelance writer for Patch.com as well as a writer/editor for the pop culture website Popdose.com, where he oversees popular columns such as Rock Court: Small Claims Division and Friday Night Videos, and has interviewed a wide range of musicians from Queensryche lead singer Geoff Tate to singer/songwriter Sam Phillips.
Before he was hired, Dunphy had already demonstrated his proficient writing and reporting skills at NAFA. Working as a freelance writer several months ago, he adeptly authored the upcoming FLEETSolutions article “Removing the Risk from the Driver’s Seat”, which will be published in the next issue of the magazine. Dunphy took full initiative with this article, researching and contacting sources, tackling new subject matter, and seeing the article to its completion, leaving little to revise or edit.
As a graphic artist, Dunphy has not only contributed images and photography to the various sites he’s written for, but produced advertising and packaging for music groups. As a musician, Dunphy has independently released nine solo recordings including the latest, People Wearing Masks, and was a member of the group Nightmare Variations in 2003.
Dunphy says his goal with NAFA is to bring all these abilities under the same umbrella to help make the Association an even more dynamic organization than it already is. During his first full week of work, he showcased some of his talents through a series of photo slideshows which include his own original musical score. The videos may be found at NAFA’s Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/nafafleetmanagement
“It’s easy to make your mark with a sitting target, but NAFA’s a different situation. Everyone has this (organization) down to a science and clicking along. I’ve got a learning curve ahead of me, but I can bring what I do best and contribute to help the Association reach its goals.”
