PRINCETON, NJ - For many fleet managers, it’s no longer enough to simply manage a fleet; doing what’s right for the environment is paramount as well. Whether it’s a corporation looking to bolster its environmental image or a municipality faced with government mandates to reduce pollution, fleet managers have important decisions to make. NAFA Fleet Management Association recognizes the challenges fleet managers face with the Sustainable Fleet Awards, which are presented annually to those whose business practices are providing for the sustainability of the environment for future generations.
NAFA Members may submit entries for award consideration now through February 28. Awards will be presented during the Association’s 2011 Institute & Expo April 9-12 in Charlotte, NC.
Four awards will be presented: two for a sedan/light truck fleet and two for a truck/equipment fleet. Entrants are grouped into two broad categories according to their fleet’s area of operation and whether or not those areas are considered mandated to improve their air quality.
Mandated Areas are defined as:
•Sedans/light truck fleets with trucks less than 10,000 GVWR located in EPAct and clean air mandated areas of the U.S. for clean air, or in Pollution Emission Management Area (PEMA) mandated areas in Canada.
•Truck/heavy equipment fleets located in EPAct and clean air mandated areas of the U.S. for clean air, or in Pollution Emission Management Area (PEMA) mandated areas in Canada.
Non-Mandated Areas are defined as:
•Sedans/light duty fleet located in non-mandated areas of the U.S. or Canada.
•Truck/heavy equipment located in non-mandated attainment areas of the U.S. or Canada.
Entrants must be members of NAFA Fleet Management Association to qualify. Applications may be submitted by any individual who is directly employed in a vehicle management role by any company, utility, government agency, or not for profit organization in the United States or Canada. A NAFA Member can nominate themselves and/or their fleet team. NAFA Members and Affiliates may nominate other fleet managers for their work in this area; however, such nominations must be verified by the person being nominated.
Entries are judged on originality, innovativeness, and demonstrated accomplishment for reducing energy consumption.
