LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Airport Authority has approved a contract calling for Nifco Mechanical Systems to install a $320,000 compressed natural gas station that will be open to the public, the Lincoln Journal Star reported. The station is expected to open for business on airport property this summer.
In addition, the Metropolitan Utilities District plans to open two CNG stations in Omaha in the summer. They will also be open to the public.
A grant from the Kansas City Regional Clean Cities Coalition will pay half the cost of the airport CNG station.
The Airport Authority initially plans to purchase seven vehicles that run on CNG. Eventually, the agency hopes to have as many as 20 CNG vehicles, Airport Authority Executive Director John Wood told the Journal Star.
Other public agencies in the region are also exploring the possibility of acquiring CNG vehicles, Wood noted, including the Lower Platte South Natural Resources District.
