Momentum IoT Adds LTE-M Capability
Momentum IoT has added LTE-M connectivity to its Eagle 1 telematics device with a chipset supplied by Paris-based Sequans Communications S.A., the Long Beach, Calif.-based telematics provider has announced.

Momentum IoT has added LTE-M connectivity to its Eagle 1 telematics device with a chipset supplied by Paris-based Sequans Communications S.A., the Long Beach, Calif.-based telematics provider has announced.
The connectivity will allow Momentum IoT's devices to operate on lower-power and bandwith 4G LTE-M networks. Fleet managers can use the hardware not only to track vehicles and assets, but they can also gather more granular information about fuel consumption and maintenance problems.
The Eagle 1 hardware will incorporate Sequans' Monarch chip with LTE-M and NB-IoT functionality. The chip supports power saving mode (PSM) and extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) to enable long battery life. It also provides enhanced coverage modes, including a +23 dBm power amplifier that can extend coverage for deep-indoor and remote deployments.
"Adding LTE-M connectivity to the Eagle 1 is crucial to our fleet manager customers because important data, including location, trip activity, or real-time maintenance issues, can now be transmitted via the always on and everywhere available nationwide LTE-M network, which provides connectivity at a lower cost and with lower power consumption," said Justin Silva, CEO of Momentum IoT.
The Eagle 1 device is plug-in telematics hardware with an auto-load feature that sets up the vehicle in the dashboard where fleet managers can view odometer, voltage, and fuel-level readings, as well as the idle, park, or moving status of vehicles. Managers have visibility of trucks on the map, including distance from site and deviations. Notifications are provided for trip length and speed reports, and alerts are provided for maintenance issues, according to the company.
