Mobileye and HERE will collaborate on several autonomous driving technologies, including high-definition live mapping that could included crowd-sourced data, the companies announced.
The intelligent-vehicle technology companies are pursuing several initiatives that involve linking the technologies they will be offering for automakers, according to a release about the collaboration.
One initiative includes HERE combining its HD Live Map with Mobileye’s Roadbook to create a map that adjusts based on real-time updates by gathering landmark and roadway information. This will allow the vehicle to better react to its surroundings, according to Mobileye. Mobileye’s REM technology uses crowd-sourced data extraction to update these maps. The real-time cloud service updates work for partially and fully-automated vehicles.
"We are building a state-of-the-art global HD map that is becoming the standard for autonomous driving and other IoT applications that need precise location-based information and services," said Edzard Overbeek, CEO of HERE. "We are rapidly expanding this capability and I am very pleased that we can accelerate that work with Mobileye, a strategic partner which shares our view of where the automotive and other industries are going."
Another initiative includes Mobileye utilizing the HERE Open Location platform for the processing of raw sensor and observation data to improve its Roadbook products. HERE will also utilize the same data that is collected and aggregated from certain vehicle brands equipped with Mobileye technology to support change detection and the maintenance of HERE HD Live Map, according to the release.
The two companies said they plan to explore other opportunities in which their products can each other's and advance technology in the autonomous driving industry.
