MiX Telematics Trains Automotive Students in Iraq

MiX Telematics recently had the opportunity to present its solutions to the inspired students of the Swedish Transport Academy in Kurdistan, Iraq. The opportunity came about thanks to the relationship MiX Telematics has with local channel partner, Scania, according to MiX.
The Academy’s aim is to rebuild the social fabric and development competence in the post-war Iraq. It was jointly established by Scania, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation, and Kurdistan’s Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
Despite suspending sales functions during the UN trade embargo, Scania continued to service vehicles under existing contracts, and was one of the first companies to return to Iraq after the embargo ended. Scania’s presence in Iraq spans over 50 years.
The Swedish Transport Academy has 13 local employees and provides training in mechanics, driving, English, computing and sales, and administration. It has a capacity for 500 students. Many students have already benefitted from the academy, upgrading their practical skills and general knowledge, while improving their English language ability, according to MiX. Some have found permanent employment following their training, while others have qualified for overseas scholarships.
“It was truly an inspiring experience and we’re proud to have taken part in some of the learning. The students showed so much ambition to understand global business and technology,” said Donna Lee-Elliott, MiX Telematics’ Dealer Channel Manager for the Middle East and North Africa.
