Missouri Agencies to Share $700K Natural Gas Grant
SPRINGFIELD, MO - The City of Springfield, Greene County, and the Missouri Department of Transportation will share the $700,000 grant for a compressed natural gas fueling station.
SPRINGFIELD, MO - Rep. Roy Blunt has secured $700,000 for a compressed natural gas fueling station that will be shared by the City of Springfield, Greene County, and the Missouri Department of Transportation, according to the News-Leader.
The grant requires no local matching funds and will help kick-start the estimated $2.2 million project.
Springfield Public Works Director Marc Thornsberry said the money is a first installment that will pay for a master plan design, a "slow-fill" natural gas pumping system and retrofitting of some smaller vehicles, such as pickups, SUVs, and cars to burn natural gas.
The natural gas fueling station will be at the Springfield Public Works Operations Center. A slow-fill station - where vehicles are filled overnight - would come first. A more costly fast-fill station, where vehicles can be fueled in 15 minutes or less, would come later, reported the Leader.
