Mercedes-Benz Recalls C300/C400 Sedans for Steering
The recall, already under way, affects 2015-MY C300 4Matic and C400 4Matic vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 10,509 2015 model-year C300 4Matic and C400 4Matic sports sedans because of a potential steering problem, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
The recall covers vehicles manufactured from March 28 to Sept. 18 of this year. The steering coupling interlock mechanism in these vehicles might not be locked in place. As a result, the sliding shaft – which is part of the steering column – could become disengaged from the steering coupling socket. This could occur because of vibrations, steering thrust, or load feedback from the road surface, NHTSA said. If the sliding shaft disengages from the steering coupling socket, the driver may experience noises, steering backlash, or even a loss of steering control.
MBUSA dealers will inspect the steering coupling interlock mechanism to verify it’s in the locked position. There will be no charge for this service.
The recall got under way last month. Vehicle owners can reach MBUSA customer service at (800) 367-6372. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2014090008.
