Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 10,509 2015 model-year C300 4Matic and C400 4Matic sports sedans because of a potential steering problem, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
The recall covers vehicles manufactured from March 28 to Sept. 18 of this year. The steering coupling interlock mechanism in these vehicles might not be locked in place. As a result, the sliding shaft – which is part of the steering column – could become disengaged from the steering coupling socket. This could occur because of vibrations, steering thrust, or load feedback from the road surface, NHTSA said. If the sliding shaft disengages from the steering coupling socket, the driver may experience noises, steering backlash, or even a loss of steering control.
