Mazda, Chrysler Issue Recalls for Fuel Pump Issues
Affected vehicles include 2018 Mazda3, Mazda6, 2019 CX-3, 2018-2019 MX-5, CX-5, CX-9, and 2019-2020 Mazda2.

In the United States, there are over 50 million vehicles with unrepaired safety recalls, according to the National Safety Council. While manufacturers must do their best to eliminate defects and decrease the number of vehicles that get recalled in the first place, fleet operators need to constantly stay aware of which vehicles need significant repairs.
Recently, Mazda North American Operations and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), a division of Stellantis, both issued recalls across several models for separate and distinct fuel pump issues.
Mazda is recalling approximately 121,038 2018 Mazda3, Mazda6, 2019 CX-3, 2018-2019 MX-5, CX-5, CX-9, and 2019-2020 Mazda2 because the impeller inside the low-pressure fuel pump may crack and deform, potentially causing the fuel pump to fail. A fuel pump failure may cause an engine stall, which increases the likelihood of a collision.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace the fuel pumps at no cost to owners.
Owner notification letters will be mailed Jan. 11, 2022. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at (800) 222-5500, Option 4. Mazda's reference number for this recall is 5321K.
In the case of Chrysler, the automaker is recalling an estimated 222,410 2019-2020 Ram 2500, 3500 pickup trucks, and Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 cab chassis vehicles equipped with Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engines. The specific problem is that the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) may fail, resulting in a sudden engine stall without warning which ups the risk of a crash.
To remedy the matter, dealers will replace the HPFP, update the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software, and inspect and replace additional fuel system components as necessary and free of charge.
Owner notification letters will be mailed Jan. 1, 2022. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at (800) 853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is Y78.
