Maine Enacts Ban on Texting While Driving
WASHINGTON - Maine Governor Paul LePage recently signed a new law prohibiting texting behind the wheel, which goes into effect in September. Violators will face a minimum fine of $100.
WASHINGTON- Maine has become the latest state to join in on prohibiting texting behind the wheel. Governor Paul LePage signed a new law June 3, making Maine the 33rd state to take action against the unsafe driving practice. Under the new law, effective in September, violators will face a minimum fine of $100.
With the addition of Maine, 33 states, the District of Columbia, and Guam have now banned text messaging by all drivers. Eight states, the District of Columbia, and the Virgin Islands have prohibited all hand-held cell phone use while driving.
