LAS VEGAS - Lifebelt, a safety device that prevents a vehicle engine from starting unless the driver is wearing a seat belt, received a little on-air promotion time during a recent episode of ABC's Shark Tank.
The manufacturer, also called Lifebelt, is ratcheting up its marketing efforts to fleets as well.
Once installed, Lifebelt is designed to ensure that all occupants of the vehicle wear their seat belts. If the driver or passengers unbuckle while the engine is running, the radio shuts off and a 50db alarm plays until the belt is re-buckled.
The system can monitor up to eight seats with no additional wiring. However, additional transmitters will be needed.
Installment of Lifebelt will not void vehicle warranties if professionally installed, the manufacturer said. Installation takes about 30 minutes.
