LED Sign Issue Spurs Transit Bus Recalls

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- A problem with Luminator Horizon LED side destination signs has spurred three separate transit bus recalls because of a potential fire risk.

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- A problem with Luminator Horizon LED side destination signs has spurred three separate transit bus recalls because of a potential fire risk. The connector board can corrode after an accumulation of moisture under the connector.

Gillig Corp. is recalling more than 1,053 MY 2001-2009 Low Floor and Phantom transit buses equipped with the Luminator Horizon LED side destination signs. New Flyer Industries is recalling 1,412 MY 2002-2009 transit buses, and Millennium Transit Services is recalling 34 MY 2006-2007 transit buses because of the same problem.

Luminator Holding LP is working with these bus manufacturers and others to resolve the problem. The affected buses will be repaired free of charge.

According to the NHTSA, about 18,620 of the interior lighting units could be covered by a recall.
