Lear Key Supplier for Chevrolet Volt

DETROIT - General Motors has selected automotive parts maker Lear Corp. as the primary supplier of the Chevrolet Volt's chargers and other key parts, the Detroit Free Press reported.

DETROIT - General Motors has selected automotive parts maker Lear Corp. as the primary supplier of the Chevrolet Volt's chargers and other key parts, the Detroit Free Press reported.

Lear, based in Southfield, is a traditional automotive supplier that's making considerable strides in the emerging EV market.

Lear's parts for the Volt include a wall-charging station and a travel charger, the onboard charger, wiring for low-voltage and high-voltage needs, and the "disconnect" button for the battery.

Pike Research estimates that by 2015, there will be 204,110 plug-in hybrids and 80,858 electric vehicles on U.S. roads. More than 60 percent of the patents Lear filed last year were for technology related to hybrid and electric vehicles.
