LOS ANGELES - The top budget analyst for the city of Los Angeles, City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana, was arrested early Friday, March 26, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was driving a city vehicle at the time the California Highway Patrol arrested him, the Los Angeles Times reported. 

"It was a mistake that I deeply regret and I apologize to my family and friends, my staff, the mayor, the City Council and the entire city family for this indiscretion," Santana said on Friday. He added that he would immediately seek counseling. He was released from custody early Friday morning. 

Santana, 40, was driving home after attending a political roast of Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley. The arrest was made at 12:15 a.m. in the city of Covina. Santana resides in Claremont. 

A CHP officer pulled over Santana's car for speeding on a surface street. After the officer noticed signs of intoxication, he conducted a field sobriety test that Santana failed. Santana was then placed under arrest, CHP spokesman Sgt. Mark Garrett told the L.A. Times. 

Santana submitted to a blood-alcohol test, but results were not disclosed.
