Kia Recalling 145,755 Optimas and Rondos
Kia Motors Corp. is recalling 145,755 2006-2008 model-year Kia Optima vehicles and 2007-2008 model-year Kia Rondo vehicles because of a potential air bag-related defect.
Kia Motors Corp. is recalling 145,755 2006-2008 model-year Kia Optima vehicles and 2007-2008 model-year Kia Rondo vehicles because of a potential air bag-related defect.
The Optima vehicles covered by the recall were all manufactured from Sept. 29, 2005 through Jan. 29, 2008. The Rondo vehicles were manufactured from Sept. 13, 2006 through March 21, 2008.
The clock spring contact assembly for the driver’s side air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) may become damaged through usage over time. If this occurs, the driver’s air bag electrical circuit will experience a high resistance condition that can lead the driver’s air bag to fail when it should deploy in the event of a crash.
Kia will notify vehicle owners of the recall, and dealers will replace the air bag clock spring contact assembly as needed. There will be no charge for the repair service.
This safety recall is expected to get under way in March.
