KAR Global's Openlane digital marketplace has given $10,000 in donations to two organizations and will launch an employee engagement initiative in 2020 to support coding education in Canada, the business unit has announced.
Two $5,000 donations will go to the JDRF to support type 1 diabetes research and the Toronto Fire Fighters Toy Drive. Employees from Openlane's Toronto technology hub participated in the JDRF's Sun Life Ride to Defeat Diabetes stationary cycling event on Oct. 19.
Employees of Openlane and ADESA Canada have raised $9,000 to support the toy drive since 2015.
Openlane will begin encouraging their employees in 2020 to participate in Leap Into Service to volunteer as mentors with Canada Learning Code that helps provide coding knowledge to women, girls, people with disabilities, indigenous youth, and newcomers. They would provide eight hours with pay per year.
Openlane is KAR's upstream digital marketplace for manufacturers, captive finance, fleet customers, and financial institutions. It recorded 1 million transactions in 2018, and saw a 20% increase in fleet vehicle transactions in the second quarter compared to the same period in 2018.
