ATLANTA- Fleet managers and users of telematics services can now easily access location data for on-board diagnostic (OBD-II) ports on thousands of vehicles, thanks to a comprehensive database service from InstallerNet.

OBD systems give the vehicle owner or a repair technician access to state of health information for various vehicle sub-systems. InstallerNet's OBD-II port location tool provides an always up-to-date customer or technical support tool that allows quick reference, including both text-based descriptions and photos of the location in the vehicle.

InstallerNet's vehicle database covers more than 22,500 vehicles currently, and each vehicle is supported by as many as 3,600 data points covering audio, security, vehicle dynamics and diagnostics, integration, and fitment. InstallerNet can work with customers to create web-based solutions that deliver data and statistics to end users or technical support staff.

"This is by far the most useful, and most current, tool used for plug and play OBDII solutions," said Frank Pellitta, vice president of wireless and telematics at InstallerNet. "For users such as fleet managers and their installation or maintenance teams, the OBDII port location tool helps increase installation efficiency, while reducing returns. The tool is also proving to be extremely valuable in newer telematics applications such as insurance telematics, providing consumers a level of detail and service never before available for such devices. Only InstallerNet has the capabilities to support OBDII devices with complete Do It Yourself as well as professional installation services."

The use of telematics -- the integration of wireless communications, vehicle monitoring systems, and location devices -- is expected to reach 5.8 million units this year, with revenues growing to more than $2 billion, according to a study by C.J. Driscoll and Associates. More than 2.5 million telematic units are currently used to manage fleet vehicles, mobile workers, trailers, heavy equipment, and other assets.
