DETROIT - Lou Fischer, former manager of remarketing and planning for VPSI, passed away July 24 from cancer. He was 66. A remarketing industry icon, Fischer was a mainstay in the remarketing and vehicle leasing business for the past 45 years.

Prior to his most recent role as manager of remarketing and planning for VPSI, Inc., a position held since 2002, Fischer worked for Wheels, Inc., for 17 years in a variety of high-level positions, including vice president - Vehicle Remarketing.

"Years ago, when I was interviewing one of the candidates for Lou's position, they asked, 'Who else are you looking at?' When I replied, 'Lou Fischer,' they said, 'If you can get Lou Fischer, you should hire Lou Fischer,' " said Steve Pedersen, vice president of VPSI, Inc. "I cannot think of a better compliment than one given by your competition. I was lucky enough to convince Lou to join VPSI in 2002 after a long career in fleet management with Wheels, Inc. He brought a gentle and thoughtful demeanor, as well as his broad expertise, that will have a lasting presence here."

Fischer is survived by his wife Carole; children, Scott (and wife Deanna) and Michael (and wife Kim); grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, and Joseph; and sisters- and brother-in-law Sharon Pine, and Thomas and Elaine Pine.
