The Chevrolet Impala midsize sedan is among nine 2019-model-year vehicles that will end production in 2020. The list is heavy on cars, reflecting a shift in preferences among American car buyers toward light truck categories and away from sedans.
The Impala, which has been in production for all but 13 of the past 62 years, wasn't spared. Through November, GM has sold 35,433 Chevrolet Impala sedans in 2019.
"For 2020 we're expecting most of the departures to be cars," Jeremy Acevedo, Edmunds' manager of industry analysis, told USA Today. "These are some sentimental departures for the industry."
The list of discontinued cars also includes the Buick Cascada convertible, Cadillac CT6, Fiat 500, Ford Flex, Infiniti QX30, Jaguar XJ, Lincoln MKC, and Toyota Prius C.
The MKC will be replaced with the Lincoln Corsair, while the Prius C is essentially being replaced by the Corolla Hybrid.
Other 2019-MY vehicles that were discontinued before 2020 include the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, Nissan Titan XD diesel, Volkswagen Gol Alltrack, Volkswagen SportWagen, and Volkswagen Beetle.
