Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling 35,000 2010-2012 model-year Elantra Touring hatchbacks because a support bracket attached to the headliner might strike an occupant during air bag deployment, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.

In a crash, the support bracket is at risk of becoming displaced during a side curtain air bag deployment, NHTSA said. To remedy the problem, Hyundai dealers will apply adhesive strips to the headliner. There will be no charge for this service.

The recall covers Elantra Touring vehicles manufactured from Dec. 15, 2009, through May 7, 2012.

The recall is expected to get under way by mid-August. Hyundai’s number for the recall is 117. The automaker can be reached at 1-800-633-5151.
