In two separate actions, Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center is recalling approximately 259,300 vehicles, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.
One recall affects 20,300 2013 model-year front wheel drive Santa Fe Sport crossover vehicles equipped with a 2.4-liter engine. Because of a manufacturing issue, the right front axle shaft may fracture and cause a loss of power to the wheels. Also, if the vehicle is parked without the parking brake applied, the car may roll away.
Dealers will remedy the potential problems by replacing the front axle shaft assembly. There will be no charge for this service. This recall covers Santa Fe Sport vehicles manufactured July 13, 2012 through March 12, 2013.
The second recall affects 239,000 2006-2010 model-year Sonatas and 2006-2011 model-year Azeras sold in, or currently registered in, states that use road salt during snow conditions. Road salt and water can enter portions of the rear crossmember, leading to corrosion of the crossmember steel. This condition may cause detachment of one of the rear control arms, NHTSA said. This problem has the potential to suddenly change the rear wheel alignment, affecting the handling of the vehicle and posing a safety risk.
To resolve the issue, Hyundai dealers will repair or replace the crossmember assembly.
