Hyundai has reduced the price of its base 2018 Sonata Plug-In Hybrid by $1,350 to $34,135, including a $885 delivery fee, and increased the model's all-electric and overall driving range while upgrading the interior of the midsize sedan, the automaker has announced.

The Sonata PHEV will now be able to drive 28 miles on electric power and provide 600 miles of range with a powertrain that pairs a 2.0-liter GDI four-cylinder engine with a 50-kilowatt electric motor that's 32% more powerful (67 horsepower). The vehicle increases total range by 10% from the 2017 model. A 9.8 kilowatt-per-hour lithium-ion battery pack is also five times larger than the system used on the Sonata Hybrid. It can achieve a full charge on a 240-volt circuit (Level 2) in 2 hours, 42 minutes. Power is delivered  through a six-speed automatic transmission.

The base model also adds a new instrument panel center stack, steering wheel, and infotainment features. The exterior also receives cosmetic tweaks, including a new "eco-spoke" allow wheel.

The higher-grade Sonata PHEV Limited model increases $250 to $39,100 (including the delivery fee). The Limited adds automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, LED headlights with automatic high beams, lane keep assist, a driver attention alert, heated steering wheel, wireless charging pad for devices with Qi technology, and a second row USB port.

The vehicle is available now.
