Honda will produce new battery-electric and plug-in hybrid models by 2018, the automaker announced at the North American International Auto Show, where the company also showed its FCV Concept hydrogen fuel cell vehicle.

The Honda FCV Concept, which will first launch in Japan later this year, is equipped with a high-pressure hydrogen storage tank that enables a range of more than 700 km (approximately 435 miles). Honda plans to bring the vehicle to the U.S. in early 2016; the automaker had initially planned to sell the FCV in 2015. Its appearance in Detroit marked its U.S. debut.

Honda is planning to use two- and three-motor hybrid systems. Honda is investing $340 million for its VTEC turbocharged four-cylinder engines at the Anna Engine Plant in Ohio later this year. Those engines will debut on vehicles in 2015, according to a press release.
