Hilton is rolling out electric vehicle charging locations at 50 of its U.S. hotels by the end of the year and 50 more by the end of 2016, the hotelier has announced.
GE is providing the current for the charging infrastructure, which will enable charging of Tesla's vehicles and other EVs under a partnership between the three companies. The move will help enable cross-crountry trips between New York City and Los Angeles.
Hilton hotel owners can receive free charging equipment to accelerate the adoption of charging solutions at qualifying hotels and resorts under the program. Hilton is working with property owners to install the charging stations, with the only associated cost being installation and electricity usage.
EV sales have increased in the last few years. Since 2010, more than 350,000 EVs have been sold in the U.S. and approximately 120,000 of those were sold in 2014, according to InsideEVs Monthly Scorecard.
