Hewlett-Packard Tops Green U.S. Companies for 2009

PALO ALTO, CA - Newsweek ranked the largest U.S. companies based on their actual environmental performance, policies, and reputation in the annual Green Rankings for 2009.

PALO ALTO, CA - Hewlett-Packard (HP) was ranked No. 1 on Newsweek's Green Rankings for 2009, which recognizes large U.S. companies striving to improve their green operations.

With the Obama administration "pushing for a cap-and-trade system that would turn companies' emissions into a bottom-line cost," according to Newsweek, "smart companies are working to better understand - and cut - those emissions ahead of new regulations." Five-hundred of the largest U.S. companies were ranked based on their actual environmental performance, policies, and reputation.

HP was recognized for its strong programs to reduce GHG emissions and was the first major IT company to report GHG emissions associated with its supply chain, reported Newsweek.

Hewlett-Packard's 8,600-unit fleet was ranked No. 31 on Automotive Fleet's 2009 Top 300 Commercial Fleets listing.
