Company employees familiar with GPS tracking maintain a more positive attitude about the telematics technology than those who use it for the first time, according to the findings of a new survey from TSheets.

During the survey, which polled 1,000 U.S. employees, about a third of respondents (322) said they have used GPS tracking at work. When asked their attitude about GPS tracking, 95% of users said they had a positive (54%) or neutral (41%) experience. Of the employees who had not used GPS tracking, 62% said they felt positive (16%) or neutral (46%) about it.

More than half of the respondents (55%) said they were only tracked while on the clock, while 15% said they were tracked 24 hours a day, and 30% said they weren't aware when they were being tracked.

The top three concerns about GPS were battery use, data use, and being tracked after work. The top three benefits of GPS were tracking mileage and travel time, ensuring employees get paid what they're owed, and greater accountability.

PollFish completed the survey for TSheets in November. TSheets is an employee time tracking and scheduling app that helps employers to manage their workforce, payroll, and invoicing. Read the full survey findings here.
