Owners of General Motors and Volvo vehicles will now be able to accept delivery of packages to their vehicles while they are parked using Amazon Key — a digital technology that allows drivers one-time access inside the vehicle.
General Motors vehicles with an active OnStar account that can receive the deliveries include Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles from 2015 model year and newer. Owners must also be members of Amazon Prime. There's no extra cost for the service, which is available in 37 U.S. cities and surrounding areas.
Volvo has added the service through its Volvo On Call service platform that includes a mobile smartphone app. The service is available in the same coverage area as GM.
When checking out on Amazon.com, purchasers of goods will select In-Car as the delivery option. Customers can select a time window, and the vehicle must be parked near the delivery address.
Volvo has been delivering packages to vehicles in Europe since 2015.
