GM Recalls Over 27,000 Vehicles

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- General Motors is recalling 27,188 MY 2009 vehicles because their fuel system control modules may have a condition in which an adhesive separation of the room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) seal between the seal and the housing may allow water to seep into the module.

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- General Motors is recalling 27,188 MY 2009 vehicles because their fuel system control modules may have a condition in which an adhesive separation of the room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) seal between the seal and the housing may allow water to seep into the module.

Water in the module could cause a short or open circuit, illumination of the "service engine soon" lamp, or setting of diagnostic trouble codes. Other possible consequences include the engine having a hard time starting or the engine stalling. These conditions increase the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

The vehicles involved in the recall are the MY 2009 Cadillac Escalade, Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, Cadillac Escalade ESV, Cadillac Escalade EXT, Chevrolet Avalanche, Chevrolet Colorado, Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, GMC Canyon, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon Hybrid and GMC Yukon XL.

Dealers will install a new fuel system control module free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on or before May 18, the NHTSA said.
